Submerged

Sculptural Relief | Mixed Media | Blacklight-Reactive Pigment

"Submerged" is a mixed media relief sculpture that delves into the emotional aftermath of impulsive financial decisions made during turbulent times. Crafted from air-dry clay and layered with acrylic pigments, the surface mimics the swirling pull of undertow currents and the sediment of spiraling thoughts.

Cracks etched into the clay are filled with blacklight-reactive paint, revealing hidden fissures that glow under UV light—like psychic fault lines illuminated in the dark. These radiant fractures speak to the invisible toll of instability and recovery, transforming emotional rupture into a luminous archive.

The palette of deep blues, greens, and earthy tones reflects the psychological terrain of regret, reckoning, and reclamation. This work channels the element of water as a force of overwhelm and emotional immersion, while also invoking earth as a site of buried memory and quiet resilience.

"Submerged" is not merely a confession; it’s a ritual—a visual ledger for those who have lost their footing and are learning to breathe again. This evocative piece invites reflection and connection, making it a compelling addition to any space.

This is a new exploration for my art in 2025 as I combine elements from my architectural and Art background.

I lost both of my fathers, one year apart. Grief came like water—rushing, relentless. I didn’t know I was drowning until I learned to be held.

This piece is a ledger of rupture: cracks that glow in darkness, currents of regret and reckoning, sediment of spiraling thought.

Water taught me to feel, to surrender, to begin again.

Submerged is not a confession. It’s a ritual. A place to breathe beneath the surface.
